Kakushigoto - Episode 12 [END] - Hime-chan Runs Hard

Hime-chan realized what her father needed the most to heal quickly and she raced out of the hospital to retrieve it.

The flashforward scenes explained the context in the season finale — it's seven years later, the public found out about his tragic search for his missing wife and couldn't reconcile his comedy writing with his circumstances, so he had to work odd jobs to support Hime-chan. For the last year, he's been in a coma after a work accident. Hime-chan received the key to their old house which stored all his manga materials from her aunt, whom she had never met.

On the day Hime-chan visited her old house in Kamakura with all of her father's artwork, Gotou woke up from his coma, only to suffer amnesia. He still thought Hime-chan was 10 years old, and the events of the whole anime season had yet to play out. Hime-chan realized the best way for him to regain his memories was to read all his manga manuscripts, because in them he poured out his hope and love for his daughter during the creative process. Hime-chan was right! The epilogue has Gotou pitching a new manga idea and his old incompetent editor suggests a story about a manga artist who hides his career from his young daughter. Who would read or believe that? We know who.
