#8 - "Railgun ⨉ Mental Out"

Hmm.

Coverage of this show is spotty this season because the broadcasts themselves are irregular. Between the seventh episode and this one, there was a three-week hiatus. Currently, the Wuhan Corona Virus is wreaking havoc across the global economy as this extremely viral respiratory disease has made national governments shelter their citizens in place to stop its spread through human contact. The collaborative arts will suffer greatly as they either find time consuming methods to adapt to social distancing rules or decide to postpone production altogether. At the time of this writing, it is already the spring anime season, and the tenth episode just showed itself. I must catch up to the spring season, and I have already had to drop plans to cover certain shows because this Wuhan Virus has cancelled them. Oregairu's final season planned to broadcast on Thursday, April 9, but it suspended itself indefinitely. The TV stations are broadcasting the second season instead, so I have already finished my work for that show.

Irregular plans are the theme of the real world these days, and it's a big one for this episode because the mind reading and manipulating Misaki doesn't like operating unless she's in total control. She ends up collaborating with Mikoto, which she tried so hard to avoid, because she's one of the few people in the world she has no control over. Listening to their pack queen banter was exhilarating because you just couldn't tell who was going to land the more damaging passive aggressive insult. It's not a surprise that the writers separated them before the end of the episode because you really can have too much of a good thing. It's also very difficult to write action scenes with these two together where everything would fit their characters in a satisfying manner. I'm sure they'll come together before the midseason break finale, which means nothing timewise these days, so we can find out why Misaki cares so much for Mikoto's little Sisters. It's intriguing!

We got a hint for why Misaki's old dude partner was so aggressive in taking down that website for urban legends — there was a picture of her at an actual research lab for manipulating DNA in the Level 6 Shift project. Kuroko is still blushing at how much her body remembers loving her Onee-sama!

Confirmation from a Misaki flashback that she and the old dude accidentally found Misaka 10032. They didn't have time to bring the kitten with them. Vaccine software might not work because the Sister's electric powers. I don't think these nanobots would have been hard for Mikoto to defeat. Oh? Misaki is a nice enough girl not to let other people die for her plot. Har. That picture on the urban legends site accidentally captured her by using a water drop lens. Mikoto's scooby gang is better than Misaki's scooby gang.

I love it when Mikoto and Misaki bare their fangs at each other. This is how alpha girls fight! Haughty stares, snide comments, and poking at sensitive body issues. Excruciating! Hee! Kuroko is not fooling Saten with how much she wants to help her Onee-sama.

Ah. Misaki is going to get Mikoto to help her take down her own enemy and THEN she'll give back Misaka 10032. Manipulative little so-and-so. We still haven't heard why Misaki is so concerned about the Sisters, but I suspect it ties into something in the past between her and Mikoto. The other organization with the Metal Nurse is looking for the Sisters too. They want the MISAKA network. They don't know that Accelerator uses it for his own powers. He's not going to like them messing with it. Seems like that opposing group wants to steal a supercomputer to make DNA with psychic powers like that urban legends site claimed. Gensei Kihara is the name of the big bad old scientist.

Misaki explains she erased Mikoto's scooby gang memories to keep them out of the way of her plans involving Kihara. Misaki would never team up with Mikoto because she can't read her mind, which makes her "irregular" in her planning.

Misaka Mama is such a messy sleeper. Railgun X Mental Out working together! Or not… Or yes, really! Misaki is just out of shape. Mikoto claims she was just jogging! Misaki claims Mikoto is just faster because she's not as heavy (boin) and is more aerodynamic (boin). Hahaha! Lousy at sports? Hah?! Ohohoho. These girls are great together. Sparkles in Misaki's eyes? Like shoujo manga? She was born that way! Look at all this yelling at each other. They get along so well…

Metal Nurse has a name, Mitori Kozaku, and she works for that Kihara scientist. He's one of those keikaku doori guys. We'll see about how "irregular" his plans get with the Railgun and her scooby gang in the mix.
