Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai S2 - Episode 3 - Rizu Trims Too Much

Rizu wanted to straighten her bangs just a little bit, but she wasn't expecting her dad to barge into the bathroom with such rotten timing.

There are two things I can say about this scene. First, Japanese bathrooms need locks or latches to stop surprising intrusions from happening. Second, a father of a teenage girl should know not to bother her when she's in the restroom. Come on, Ogata Papa, you should know better than this.

The two best parts of this first act are Sawako acknowledging that Rizu's new term hairstyle debut was better than hers and Rizu awakening her maiden heart at needing a boy to notice something new about her and compliment it. The noticing and the compliment are equally important! Nariyuki inadvertently got Rizu points by complimenting something totally different — her much more expressive face making her cuter.

The second half showcased how good of a friend Sawako really is, but also how much of a gap there is between Rizu's and Sawako's regard for each other. Sawako was so happy and excited that Rizu accepted her "date" to shop for a new pen case but she still gave up her allotted time so Rizu could spend it with Nariyuki. The best second fiddles know how to harmonize and Sawako got plenty of rewards on the back side of her gesture.
