Akemi wanted to see all the muscles on display for the Mr. Nikunoshima Contest. Hurry up, already!
The Silverman Gym is hosting another event, this time at Nikunoshima (sounds like Muscle Island), for Spring Break and everyone is going. Akemi and Hibiki were reluctant at first, school president duties to be done and a pile of videos to watch, but were instantly motivated when they heard about the Mr. Nikunoshima Contest. Good-looking macho men? Sign them up! A side story surely meant for comedic purposes has Jason and Director conniving to make a reality television production out of our four main girls.
We finally got the beach episode we wanted, needed, and deserved! All that was missing was some shots of our older sister types (and one MILF) showing their new swimsuits too, but chugging beer is a good consolation prize.
We somehow got onto the notion we need to exercise our trapezius muscles because the girls were going to split a watermelon on Macho Man's shoulder instead of on the sand. Hibiki modeling in and out of her new swimsuit was fine with me.
Hibiki and Akemi's hopes for hot guys and muscles were dashed when the Mr. Nikunoshima Contest was cancelled due to lack of participation. Lame. But when they heard the first prize for the Miss Nikunoshima Contest was Silverman Gym protein mix and a Blu-ray box set of ten years worth of Mr. Nikunoshima contests, Akemi was all in! Hibiki just wanted the food.
Zina and Ayaka were quickly out of the running because Zina's talent portion was already done by another Russian girl doing the Cossack Dance and Ayaka's teeny weeny bikini getting her disqualified. Akemi's demonstration was not a mere handstand, but handstand push-ups!
12 episodes in, and we finally get an exercise video on push-ups. Akemi's handstand version works her trapezius muscles too, but then there's also the other muscles she's using to do the handstand. Seems more important to me. Ayaka, of course, can do push-ups all day long.
Hibiki's talent brought us back full circle to when we realized this show wasn't your average cute-girls-do-macho-things anime with sports club tutorials. Hibiki ONE-PUNCH!ing a punching bag was proof of that, as if Macho Man's magical sweat suit didn't give you other clues. Hibiki still had her ONE-PUNCH working.
The judges came up with a tie for Hibiki and Akemi, so they needed a tie breaker. This also came full circle, because the bench press was the first exercise they did together. Both pressing the same weight will show how far they've come in one year, especially since Akemi hasn't had any real events to gauge Hibiki's progress. Bad luck dashed them all, and she wasn't there for the arm wrestling contest. But Hibki's constant need to eat was her downfall, so she couldn't even do one press because she bonked. Akemi was Miss Nikunoshima!
As our main characters celebrated sunset at the beach, the forgotten side story came back right before the end credits. Jason and Director were stranded because their boat motor gave out, and as they accepted their inevitable deaths, the end credits played. It was a very nice homage to bittersweet action movie endings. Speaking of action movie endings, as Hibiki and Akemi acknowledged how they've become good friends, Harnnold Dogegenchonegger literally resurfaced to save the life of his underling Jason Sgatham, with the Director in tow. Happy endings all around!
The omake for the last episode covered push-ups, of course. See you muscle guy and girls later! I'll miss you all of you!
In a special epilogue, Hibiki found she had made her weight goal. Yay! Now go find a boyfriend with that "nice body."
