Eren realizes one detail about Titan powers he learned from his father's memories has important consequences for the royal family and Historia.
Episode 58 - "Attack Titan 進撃の巨人"
Meh.
58 episodes into this show and we finally learn that the title has always the name of Eren's Titan. And also that the English translation of the title appears to be based on a bad typo... Furthermore, Eren "naming" his Titan is treated by Levi and Hange as a phase of chuunibyou. "Attack, my Titan! Pew, pew!" Honestly though, that whole exchange between Hange and Levi talking about Eren being "at that age" was confusing to me. Am I missing something here? Even the council members just shrugged off Eren's "phase."
Hmm.
We got part two of another massive info dump, with confirmation that Eren has two Titan Powers inside him. The Coordinate has always been the other name for the Founding Titan power, which connects all Eldians to its owner. However, there's some intriguing hints that things are more complicated than this.
First, the big one, is that Eren realized he was able to access the Coordinate power and order Titans around by touching the Dina Titan at the same time. Eren has questions and is worried that the military might make Historia into a Titan, just so a non-royal can use this power. The military also has to make sure a royal doesn't get back the Coordinate power because the King who fled to Paradis Island was an extreme pacifist and his King's Ideal dominates any royal who has the Founding Titan. Does the royal really need to be a Titan, or can Historia just ride around with Eren to use it? More tests need to be done, but for some reason Eren doesn't want to trust Hange.
The second interesting thing was how Historia was able to access Ymir's memories just from touching her words. We know pure royals can access and manipulate the memories of an entire population of Eldians. Is this scene just Historia getting used to that power and being surprised at the last scene of Ymir in a crystal room like Rod Reiss had?
That quick scene with Ymir was another intriguing detail. Was that a memory from the past, or is it the present? Is that crystal chamber something like how the Marleyan's pass on Titan powers among the Eldian traitors? Are they just using the same facility that the royal family used before they fled? And what if it was from the past? That's less likely, but it was quite an evocative scene considering what all the characters went through during the first half of the third season.
The last interesting bit of information came from Eren Kruger about the lifespan the Curse of Ymir gives the holders of the Titan Powers, only thirteen years. Also, Titan Powers are never really lost. If a Titan Power dies before passing his power to a Pure Titan, then the Titan Power is passed on to a random Eldian baby. Maybe this is what the heretics in the desert were doing with all those orphans and Ymir who had "the King's Blood?" There's a lot of story left to tell here, but Eren only has 8 years left and so does Ymir.
Heh.
Eren Kruger chose that moment to kill the Marleyans because his 13 years of Titan Power were up and he planned on giving it to Grisha.
Oh hey, guess where Eren Jaeger got his name?
Attack Titan. Okay, can we stop calling this show "Attack on Titan" in English now?
Grisha needed to explain the ocean in his diary - exactly like ours in size and composition.
Kruger has a nosebleed after his transformation.
He has protected his cover identity by doing horrible things for many years. There's a blood test for Eldians too.
He was royalty left behind, but his family was ineffective and were killed.
His mission for Grisha was to retake Founding Titan and depose the King for his pacifistic ways.
The Curse of Ymir means Titans die in 13 years.
Eren only has 8 years, Ymir too. But, does it count from when he got it, or when he first used it?
Mikasa doesn't want Eren to die so soon, of course.
Kruger mentioned both interpretations of how Ymir got her Titan powers, deal with the devil or miracle from God. Maybe even touched the fabric of true reality... sounds like quantum entanglement. At this point, 1800 years later, the actual truth is lost to history.
Kruger couldn't save Dina, because the Marleyans would use a royal descendant as a breeding tool.
It was Kruger who had Grisha's family portrait, and gave it to him before he gave Grisha his Titan power, the Attack Titan.
Implores Grisha to move forward to pay for the consequences of their actions.
The Attack Titan pushes forward, seeks freedom, and fights for that freedom. Sound like your usual Shouty McShouterson hero.
Ha! Levi says Eren is just chuunibyou for calling his power Attack Titan.
Gah! More spoilers in the eye catch, which says paths of memories in Founding Titan transcend space and time! Don't say that, because I might think Titans have memories from future hosts.
Eren doesn't want to tell Hange yet that he's seeing the memories of Grisha outside the presence of Historia touching him.
Levi is the Man. Hange talking just now was worth another 10 days in the stockade, so you're free! Actually, they need to free them because they can't keep Heroes of the Scouts in jail for any longer.
Mikasa lost weight? Probably worrying about Eren and Armin dying relatively soon.
Nice letter from Ymir. Reiner is a creep, no wonder he's still single. AND Ymir wanted to marry Historia. Shingeki no Yuri.
Ah. The aurora Ymir saw when she regained herself after eating a Marleyan intruder was from the Coordinate and all the connections to Eldians everywhere.
Sasha is now Apple Girl instead of Potato Girl.
Eren just realized he used the Coordinate Power when he touched the Dina Titan. He also hasn't told Armin and Mikasa yet that Grisha's first wife killed his mother. Or even that the Beast Titan Zeke is his half-brother.
Eren is worried what this realization means for Historia. Turn her into a Titan so he can use his Titan Power? Is he also keeping secret that he has two Titan Powers? The military knows of only the Founding Titan power from the King.
Maybe that's why Hange is looking weirdly at him. She suspects he holds two Titan Powers.
What? Eren's memories of Armin and Mikasa came from the future to the past for Eren Kruger! "...transcend space and time."
Did Grisha remember this and this is why he took in Mikasa and favored Armin?
Next time, it's the season finale and Armin gets to see the ocean.
