Episode 3 - "The Hunt Begins"
Hmm.
I quite like how Garou is being set up as the anti-Saitama. Saitama started training to be a hero for fun by killing monsters. He got hurt along the way, but he also got stronger until he woke up one day with his hair gone and his body totally invulnerable. I'd love to see what that first day of being the ultimate hero monster, er, hero looked like to Saitama. In Garou's case, we're seeing the same kind of progression.
It hasn't been revealed yet what is Garou's motivation for becoming a monster, but something happened six months prior and he believes becoming a monster starts with defeating heroes. Coming from Bang's school of the Fist of Flowing Water, Crushed Rock, Garou is already trained in defeating human fighters. Like Saitama, he's starting out human, so he gets hurt and has to learn from his mistakes. Thankfully for the audience, Garou appears to be smarter than Saitama, so he's learning quicker, which will move his story along faster too. He's like a dark fusion of Genos' organized mind and Saitama's ambition directed at hurting heroes.
There is one difference in Garou's story arc compared to Saitama's. If the incomplete Saitama had met one of the monster kings, he never would have become One Punch Man. Garou is fortunate that he's training against basically moral people, because he met his final boss without being reduced to a red stain on the ground. Thankfully, Saitama is one of those people who can't read the mood, so he just chopped Garou away with what he thought was the same strength. Saitama is also no good at gauging his power, so it was lights out for Garou.
Heh.
Bang is being extra hard on Charanko.
He then goes straight to Genos to vent about being kicked out of the dojo and Bang acting strangely.
Of course, Fubuki is just hanging out snacking while King wants to get back to the video game.
Genos is such the perfect narrative device for this series. He's basically a computer, so it's not surprising he pays attention to news and looks up stats. He's always the source for explanations and back stories. Genos already knew about Garou quitting the dojo and attacking the Hero Association.
Saitama is just jealous of Bang's hero name. Silver Fang is way cooler than Hagemanteau.
Saitama is bad with faces. He doesn't remember meeting Charanko when he and Genos visited Bang at his dojo.
Garou starts beating down heroes. Charanko is going to get caught up in it.
Mumen Rider is going to get his face smashed in again, right?
Tank-Top heroes going to get revenge!
Tank-Top Master has a good punch.
Old geezers on a road trip to put down a rabid dog.
Bang still calls Bong (Bomb) "Onii-chan."
Garou getting pretty beat up, but maybe not.
Mumen Rider, you lovable fool! Getting smashed by Tank-Top Master to save Garou.
And Garou starts using martial arts. Confirmation that he did come from Bang's school of the Fist of Flowing Water Crushed Rock. All this time he's been fighting without those techniques, but he's going to have to use them against an S-Class hero.
Charanko being useless...
Saitama just wants to eat bananas at the hospital while visiting Mumen Rider. He's so endearing with the way he passes them out. Being playful is how he makes friends.
Saitama doesn't know who Tank-Top Master is. That's Genos' job, apparently. Saitama just doesn't know anyone unless he's actually met them.
Ha! Tank-Top Master "stood his ground the most," instead of getting beat up the worst!
Tank-Top Master just planted a seed of obsession in Saitama's head about "martial arts."
Garou has a certain charisma about him that lets this kid be friendly. Not friendly enough to loan him his Hero Guide. Get your own, Garou. He's not being stingy.
Saitama gets interested! Not in Garou, but martial arts. You can tell he's hoping to get a challenge from a martial artist. Prepare to be disappointed, Saitama. Sonic the ninja is pretty much the pinnacle of martial arts and you defeated him by jumping past him.
Saitama doesn't want to spar Bang because he's an old man. That's just not fair! Charanko, meanwhile, was just beat up by that old man before he got beat up worse by Garou.
Garou takes down a couple more heroes, but they have weapons this time, and they actually injure him. Heroes are whittling down his body, so it looks like we're getting set up for a downward spiral kind of story for Garou. As if.
Never meet the final boss before you're ready. Garou gets taken out by Saitama buying a wig that matches Charanko's hair color.
I'm reminded of that martial arts story convention where the hero gets defeated by a strong opponent and he muses at how much larger the world is than he thought because it contains such people and techniques he's never even imagined before. And then Garou's face hit the pavement.
Genos wants to help Saitama get prosthetic hair... Apparently his own prosthetic hair is not bonded to living tissue.
Saitama just wants to try martial arts!
Next time, Metal Bat is probably going to take a swing at Garou.
