10 Second Anime - One Punch Man S2 - Episode 2

An unexpected visitor and Fubuki visit Saitama for various reasons. Garou begins his hero hunting.

Episode 2 - "Human Monster"

Meh.

This is the last time I'll mention this about the animation because the show is not going to change animation directors now - it's bad. I had hoped that we might see some dynamic movement in a set piece like Genos vs. Sonic, but they actually used dissolve techniques between frames to simulate movement. Wow. I can acknowledge the dark color palette from saturating the colors for their shaded and textured fills, but I'm going to have to grit my teeth watching anything that isn't a slow motion reaction shot. No joke - the only good piece of animation I've see so far comes from the opening credits when Saitama crushes a juice box.

Oh, one more thing on the dark color palette - this is going to be terrible when the monster association shows up and we have to try and pick out forms while they're in their tunnels. It's going to be bad like Meiko in Prison School wearing her catsuit bad. J.C. Staff did that one too, but somehow the animation was better there than in a super hero title. So, no redemption from poor style and production choices from the second episode, only confirmation and doubling down.

Hmm.

Saitama really does say some cool master hero things, justifying the presence of disciple hero Genos. His whole speech to Fubuki about a hero's motivations, the heroic ideal, is what should matter instead of worrying about rankings and factions, sounded like it came out of Mumen Rider's mouth. Without the schmaltzy smile protection stuff, but the sentiment was there.

Genos also pointed to Saitama's heroic charisma. Saitama actually has some! It comes through in his attitude about treating everyone the same but also with the confidence that nothing and no one can hurt him. Of course, this confidence is now almost cynical boredom because he so rarely gets to use his powers seriously in a moment that matters. Sonic is a hundred years too early to make Saitama serious.

But still, Saitama's charisma draws strong people to him, like Genos, Bang, and now King. King isn't really strong, but his luck is. Fubuki had to acknowledge all this because Saitama is in many ways like her older sister Tatsumaki. The number two strongest hero (because Bang said he's getting too old) doesn't care about rankings or factions either, because of how strong she is, but she still acts like a little girl around Bang, trying to get his approval. I'm looking forward to seeing Tatsumaki discover just how strong Saitama is.

Heh.

The Hero Association needs to recruit criminals because of the prophecy and because more and more monsters keep showing up, so that the heroes are short-handed.

Enter Garou, the human monster. At least he wants to be.

Garou knows his hero-monster conventions. Monsters show up first and get to have all the fun. Heroes always arrive late.

Full size opening credits, showing us what the fight scenes are going to look like. There better be some good music and sound effects, because they don't look very exciting. That last punch looks good, but we'll probably see it in the final episode.

Fubuki is acting like a gang boss where "recruiting" means giving an offer one can't refuse.

Saitama is increasing in rank by pummeling monsters in front of witnesses so he doesn't have to report in all the time like he did at C-class. I think he only went up to B-class so he could go back to being lazy.

Genos has a fan club!

We saw Fubuki and crew walking to Saitama's house, but who is this fast moving intruder? We know it's Sonic, but who will get to the door first?

Saitama is in real trouble - he saved over King's game data.

He doesn't want any newspapers...

Saitama also doesn't like intimidation tactics. We can see Fubuki's underlings slowly losing their tempers, but we can hear it in Saitama's voice.

He figured out Fubuki's inferiority complex real quick.

Saitama doesn't need factions.

One Punch Rejection!

Saitama got right up in Fubuki's personal space. I think she kind of liked it?

Saitama, the Master Hero, lecturing Fubuki about hero things.

She was going to slice him with box cutter?

And Saitama has to save her from Genos' bad aim.

All the S-Class heroes come to Saitama's house. Where have you been, B-Class?

Genos knows about her newbie crushing.

Ha! Saitama says to her, "It's getting crowded, so you should leave." Totally dismissing as a mere civilian because he has Genos and S-Class villain Sonic fighting over here.

In case you need reminding why Sonic wants revenge, here you go.

Genos got faster, but Sonic has after images.

Genos is definitely learning from his Master - series of serious cyborg punches! Oh sure, call it machine gun punches, but come on.

Ha. Saitama just put Genos down before he blew up the block. No fighting in front of the house!

Serious Series of Serious Sideways Jumps! A little bit seriously!

And Sonic goes down. Again.

Revealed! Fubuki is Tatsumaki's younger sister. Wait. Younger? Tatsumaki is totally rocking that loli-tsundere type.

Fubuki explains that A-Class has the same problem of factions plus Sweet Mask. That guy has issues. Saitama just wants to read his manga, okay?

And now King comes over, looking for his video game, shocking Fubuki even more. I think Fubuki is going to start coming over a lot too. And she'll always come up with a reason, whether it's a real one or not...

The Hero Association just spent two hours coming up with Genos' and Saitama's hero names. Demon Cyborg and Hagemanteau. Japanese for "bald" and French for "cape." Technically, it's for "mantle, overcoat", but huh.

Garou's first bunch of heroes in his hunt are the Tank Top faction.
