There were a few firsts associated with the young Frenchman's win on the first Alpine stage of the Tour. It was Alaphilippe's first Tour stage victory at his second appearance. It was also the first French victory at their own Grand Tour, taking 10 stages before a native won. It was Alaphilippe's first polka-dot jersey after securing many KOM points after breaking away from the main breakaway of the day. He wore his first Tour jersey in 2016 as the Young Rider's overall leader during that edition's first week.
