Scenes from a river trail ride after a storm on 3/24/2018.
Last year, it rained almost every day for two months straight, from January into March, but it was nowhere near as cold as this year's Winter. We had less rainy days, but there were many storms that spanned multiple days. On this particular day, the rain ended the night before, but that didn't mean the flooded water had disappeared by the time I found some in an underpass.
I was dressed for cold and wind, but I was not expecting my shoes and socks to get soaked! This was also the day of the annual Tour de Sewer, a local organized ride that rides the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel River Trails, so a whole bunch of riders with different levels of experience found themselves dealing with a river crossing in the dark. Fun!
The popular cyclist rest stop at the base of the Santa Fe Dam was a ghost town, probably because the locals knew to stay away during the Tour de Sewer and to avoid the muck and wetness from the overnight storm. Plus, there was a homeless guy still sleeping in his tent, so that kind of discouraged loud camaraderie.
At least my bike got half of a wash during this ride, but that didn't help the bottom bracket. When I took the bike in for maintenance a couple of weeks later, it had to be replaced.
