10 Second Anime - Amanchu! Advance - Episode 3

Futaba learns new diving skills, but struggles with the feeling that she's preventing Hikari from having her own fun.

Episode 3 - "The Story of the Pro and the Expert of Happiness"

Hmm.

We couldn't go too long during a Summer Break without seeing the Diving Club in action. Even though they're all locals, they still had a training camp with accommodations by the beach. This all meant it was a good time to check in with Futaba and see how her timidness is still being expressed. This time around, it's not her personal fear of being left out that is causing her trouble, she's used to that and she dealt with it just fine, but now she's worried about causing Hikari to be left behind too because she has to stay with her. Still going in circles about the same issue of trying new things and asserting her own identity. It's all good.

Also, Ms. Katori got to say something cool again. Just a reminder that cool something #1 is "Fun is without limits." Cool something #2, "Good times are also reality." That's quite a thing to say from a creative property where moments of connection are portrayed as surreal and dream-like, but those are just layers to how "real" a fun time can be. That was a good bit of perspective for Futaba, who always considered her weaknesses to be real and her strengths to be dreams or aspirations. Nope, young one, they're real too. Now go out there, and practice believing in it!

Heh.

Diving Club has a Summer Training Camp! Yay!

I love every time Katori-sensei says, "Yoshi!"

Ah. Compass skills. It's like orienteering underwater. Very useful because of the low light levels and low visibility distances.

Aw. Teko is worried that Pikari is just going to watch her practice instead of swim right next to her. She has to do this on her own, obviously, since the other kids already know how to do it.

Wha... the cats just adopted some family so they can nap in the shade. Cats are so selfish...

Yup. That's really dark down there.

Slight moment of panic here from the experience of isolation.

Well, of course she did it. Futaba got over anxiety pretty quickly and remembered the advice about landmarks. Good for her.

She's so happy!

Ah. Here comes the next wave of anxiety. The twins are going night diving, but Hikari is going to stay with Futaba.

Hikari makes a good point about how ocean water temperatures aren't affected so much by the time of day, but depends more on the time of year. That doesn't stop a person from being cold once they get out of the water at night, though.

Light so bright!

Aw. Futaba took a little step backward in her personality development. Now she's worried she's holding her friends back from experiencing things instead of just herself. I guess that could be seen as a step forward, since it's her root anxiety applied to a new situation.

Suddenly, foot rub!

The cats have sleeping caps, for some reason.

Katori-sensei is an early riser too. She got to say another cool thing. "The good times are also reality," she said. Just so.

The world Futaba can share with Hikari right now may be small, but it's still beautiful and it's still real.

And another shouting promise. Futaba's high pitched timid yell is so precious!

Next time, school starts up already? That Kokoro kid is there and an obvious girl with same hair color, same eye color, but lighter skin is hanging out with Futaba. These mascots always seem to come in pairs for Hikari and Futaba. Hikari got Chakamon, then Futaba got Ohime. Now there's a couple of younger students to share with them, but Hikari always seems to get hers first.
