Episode 6 - "Ougi Dark - Part 2"
Hmm.
If last episode was the info dump, this was the talking episode before all hell breaks loose.
There was an intra-episode cliffhanger about who and where Ougi came from, but by the time she started talking to Tsukihi, everyone, Ougi, Tsukihi, the audience, had accepted that she was a regular aberration that could be defeated when confronted by her true identity.
This concept was explained and talked about in several different ways. Araragi called it a monster story being explained with science just turns into a superstition. Gaen compared it to quantum pair annihilation, where a quantum entangled pair of particle and anti-particle flash into and out of existence when they meet again.
Through the course of the Bakemonogatari stories, Araragi was always the one to facilitate these "pairs" confronting each other. Here, at the end, he has to do it for himself. The bomb dropped at the end of last episode was that Ougi was just a regular aberration. The bomb dropped at the end of this was that Araragi himself was the origin of Ougi.
It seemed like a bit of time wasting or teasing to have Ougi mess with Tsukihi before finally meeting her other half. In fact, Ougi called her encounter with the Phoenix "unfinished business." But there was a point. Their conversation dropped clues into how Araragi could cheat his way into a happy ending for Ougi.
Ougi already knew, because it's what Araragi knows, that the core of his being is that he loves young girls. She knew that part of what keeps the Phoenix around, even if it does know its nature, is that it has a big brother who loves her so much, he doesn't care. Ougi tried to charm him into thinking of her this way, but it appears it didn't take. Or did it?
The other part of Ougi's conversation with Tsukihi is something only a survivor like the Phoenix could offer. In a mystery story, once you know the culprit's identity, the story better wrap up quickly, because the suspense is gone. But Tsukihi thinks that in real life, once you know the monster's identity, that's when the real story begins. Could Ougi have found her loophole to convince Araragi to cheat her way into a happy ending, even though it's against her nature? That's what the last episode will tell us.
Heh.
I only just realized this, but maybe like Araragi I always knew, but those rainbow clouds only appear when Gaen is in the vicinity.
Lots of exposition here to lead Araragi to believe the other girls when they tell him who Ougi is. Wow, they all knew. Mayoi looks the most disappointed in him.
Ougi's name came from Kanbaru introducing a "fan" of hers. Ougi means hand fan. Plus, Araragi was a fan of basketball star Suruga.
Gaen says it's not important how Araragi first heard the Oshino name attached to her, but it's most certainly a lie that she is Meme's niece.
Gaen offers a clue to how her sister made her own aberration because of how tough she was on herself. She said that Araragi had a similar personality trait. We know where this is going now, but we'll have to wait until Araragi says it himself, the true identity of Ougi.
And Ougi's True Identity is *change scene* ! Ha!
Aw. Nadeko looks healthy now, but her hair is even shorter than when she was trying to cover it up. Can't make any Medusa snakes with that hair style.
Tsukihi is awfully suspicious of Ougi. All the aberrations have been.
Tsukihi's deal is that she doesn't know everything, but she can do everything.
Ougi tried to talk her into a self-annihilation! Tsukihi has no future, just an eternal present, etc. But the Phoenix is a survivor. She's awfully good at living, she said!
Ougi warned Araragi about slick-talking adults, but really! Look at her own slick words.
Ougi may have learned a gambit to try when confronted with her true identity. The word is also spelled as "right body" in Japanese. Something to remember.
Did Araragi just tell himself that this conversation was meaningless? This whole series has been about how important talking and words are! There's going to be a reckoning.

Here's a clue for the next episode too. Ougi was trying to get Araragi to love her like he loved Tsukihi, so she could keep existing after confronted with her true identity. She was trying to get Araragi to love... himself!
