Episode 460 - "Kaguya Ootsutsuki"
Heh.
I have never been less motivated to see another Filler arc than right now. I found Hagoromo's telling of the story of his mother through woodcut inspired art much more interesting than having this studio's B-Team fail at filling out missing details.
In most Creation Myths, the unanswered question about the series of events is why stuff happened at that particular time. This can mainly be waved away by saying, "This is the beginning!" Well, it happened twice in this one episode, irritating me just that little bit more.
That big tree fell to earth (why then, why at all?) and then thousands of years later, Glowing Kaguya popped out of the tree. At least I think she popped out of the tree. That part wasn't made explicitly clear either. But she's tied to the tree, even if it's only by her last name, Great Bore Tree. Again though, why then, why at all?
Anyway, for someone not so talkative, she managed to fall in love with a dumb, too honorable and too earnest territorial leader. I could see that he was trying to avoid fighting at all cost as some kind of unspoken promise to grant Kaguya's wish for peace, but he was just not clever enough to find an honorable way of dealing with the trollish behavior of his expansionist neighbors.
At least we know who was the father of Hagoromo and Hamura. That was never mentioned before.
Meh.
Bad guys from the land of Ka were so obviously bad. I know this is a cartoon, but I'm still expecting better villains than cartoon villains in Naruto.
Tenji, Kaguya's lover, was as dumb as a box of rocks. It's alright to be seen as honorable, but at least be clever enough to find ways of satisfying honor without having to kill the mother of your children who acted in justified self-defense or riddle her lady-in-waiting with flaming arrows.
Next time, the twins grow up with only their mother and talking animals. It might be interesting to see where all these sage toads, snakes, birds, cats and dogs came from. But really, let's just finish up the main story already.
