10 Second Anime - Shokugeki no Soma - Episode 14



Souma sees where he went wrong but he still needs to solve his problem.

Episode 14 - "Metamorphosis"

Heh.

 

As expected, the more experienced cooks like the Nakiris saw the inherent flaw in serving a soufflé at a buffet. The air would eventually leak out and the puffy dish would fall.

 

Oh hey, that Alice Nakiri formally introduced herself as Erina's cousin. She has a grudge because Erina took her dolly and said her cake tasted bad. They were 5 years old at the time...

 

Well, Souma figured out where he went wrong, plus being right next to Erina's station meant he wasn't getting customers. He had problems to solve and some remembered advice from his dad gave him a game plan.

 

First, get some customers. Next, cook as fast as possible!

Those juggling skills paid off.

 

Funny how the kids' reactions to good food did not include naked orgasms. I guess people in this show only appreciate food with the sensations they've already known.

 

Ikumi had the same kind of problem with Alice that Souma had with Erina - she couldn't distribute her food because of Alice's popularity.

Maybe Ikumi is envious of Alice's other attributes...

 

Buffets have live stations, like serving prime rib or turkey, so technically Souma's cooking show satisfied that requirement. He was able to snag some of Erina's customers too with his spectacle, unlike Ikumi, who only finished up her 200th plate because Alice used up all her ingredients.

These Nakiri cousins have set themselves up for quite the dichotomy. Erina stresses finding the epitome of traditional dishes while Alice stresses chemistry to find new ways of preparing food to find new tastes. Souma is a bit in the middle there with his hobby of discovering new horrible tastes with traditional ingredients.

 

Souma demonstrated his character again - learning through trial and error, emphasis on error this time around.

 

Aw, hell training camp is over, which means we have to say goodbye to these interesting alumni.

We got some more flashes of new characters we'll be meeting this season, so I can't wait until we get a real beginning to the new season.

Hmm.

There's a slight wrinkle to Erina's focus on traditional cooking. We know that she has an agenda of shutting down traditional Japanese cuisine, but they've been the kind of cooking that's for the masses or fast food, like you find in cooking stalls. I'm interested to see how this gets refined as her way of reshaping Japanese food culture into something stressing fine dining like French or Italian. She's already come to blows with Souma during the food bowl shokugeki that Ikumi lost, but she also has to respond to her cousin Alice's theories too. Fun times ahead during the next season of Shokugeki.
