Alberto Contador's GC rivals have many reasons to be afraid of his improving performance after today's rainy stage into Vicenza. He finished 2nd, gained a time bonus, made a gap and put more time into his closest contenders. But the scariest thing happened on the podium.
Contador has not popped the cork on the celebratory Prosecco on the podium for seven stages since he popped his shoulder out on stage 6. With his bruised legs feeling better, he had already been testing his rivals on short climbs after the rest day. But now that his shoulder is feeling better, that long time trial on Saturday might not hurt Contador as much as others had been planning, especially because he is no slouch on the time trial bike, winning time trials in the Tour de France and being a former Spanish Time Trial champion.
