The finishing town of Stage 2, Genova (Genoa), is the birth place of famous Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. It's also the hometown to a not so famous Italian, which may change depending on how he does during the Giro, Pier Paolo De Negri of the NIPPO-VINI FANTINI pro-continental team. He was born in Genova in 1986.
