Koufuku Graffiti - Episode 12 [END]

10 Second Anime - Koufuku Graffiti - Episode 12 [END]
Graduation and looking forward to attending high school lets our gourmet girls reminisce about the past and enjoy the present, with good food, of course. Season Finale.

Heh.

All's well that ends well. The girls make it into the school of their choice. The other prep school girls also make it, so Kirin already has a whole gaggle of girlfriends when she starts school in a new city.

They leave it beyond the story for the girls to discover their downstairs neighbor Yuki is a teacher at their new school. Tantalizing.

Ryou is growing up, but Grandma is still there to celebrate those milestones.

It's the last episode, so that means we need to get a last few recurring jokes in. Yes, Kirin looks young, but she is not a lost child in need of her mother.

Kirin eats fast. Kirin eats a lot. Kirin wants to eat a Mt. Fuji's worth of rice to go with Ryou's yellowtail broth with daikon.

That was actually a neat device to bring the first meal we saw in the first episode to the last episode and hammer home for Ryou that the missing ingredient to make it taste good was eating it with Kirin.

Congratulations, Ryou. You've really graduated from junior high and cooking school of love and life.

It's not a party until every single close friend and family member shows up. Even Kirin's parents from the sticks.

Dueling big vegetables! Every lady in this show knows how to show food to the camera.

Also, I realized why Kirin's mom cooked so much stir fry vegetables. THEY LIVED ON A FARM! Even a few episodes back when Kirin was back home talking to her mom in their FARM TRUCK, I didn't make the connection. I'm glad I figured this out by the last episode.

Come on Ryou. This isn't sexual harassment. This is skinship.

After 12 episodes of eating, NOW Ryou is worried she put on weight?

Koufuku Graffiti - Episode 12 [END] - Ryou's Uniform

No, no. It's just the same uniform she started junior high in and she finally outgrew it. On graduation day.

You know, Ryou's pretty airheaded sometimes. I'm not so sure Kirin and Aunt Akira forgot to tell her that Kirin was moving in with her for high school.

Finally. Kirin's mom's cooking is foodgasmic because she cooked for other people, not just to save some time and "be healthy."

Maybe Tsuyuko's "everyday" sandwiches had something to do with the taste too.

Hmm.

Our cute girls cook things cutely anime is over and I'm going to miss them. The last episode was as consistent as all the others with its use of reaction gags, fun music, and bright colors. It was neat to see the adults witness the foodgasms too. Making sure Grandma's presence was prominent for the whole family was good too as a way to acknowledge Ryou's own maturity, but to emphasize how important family is for good tasting meals. Love and good company are the most important spices for every meal.

Final Thoughts.

There isn't much more to talk about this show that already hasn't been discussed during each of the twelve episodes. It was a light, fluffy, healing, slice of life, cute girls do cute things anime. The themes of friendship and family punctuated by tying them to making meals taste good was the hook. The meat of the show was the characters. They each had their quirks and their mystique, some more mysterious than others, but they were all good people and they all genuinely came to care for each other. I looked forward to spending time with these characters each week and to see what meal they were going to go crazy over. I wouldn't mind seeing them in another season through high school, but the structure of the show would mean incorporating more characters. A new setting helps there, but a more evolved hook needs to show up. What we had here was satisfying enough. No need for seconds, even if there's always room for more.
