Naruto Shippuuden - Episode 400
Shira and Rock Lee, the taijutsu specialists, exchange stories of hardship. The other Sand ninjas accept Shira as one of their own.
Heh.
Rock Lee has such a gentle heart.
Tenten may have started letting the waterworks flow too if not for Lee's over the top sentiment.
Shira got so strong he destroyed the boulder he kept hitting all those years. Gaara had a great line thereafter, "Show me which has more worth to the village, the boulder or you!"
After Shira showed he still prioritized the village's need for more chuunin over his own ambitions, the other Sand ninja accepted his feelings and him. Yup. Cue the waterworks.
Oho. Does the little big eyed girl have a crush on Shira?
Oh yeah. There's that guy this show is named after. Eating ramen, of course.
Lee isn't one to let an opportunity go to waste. Shira! Lee! Fight-o!
Hmm.
Part of Shira's story demonstrated the reforms Gaara started making after he became Kazekage. Seeing the wider world affected his outlook, and not just Naruto's actions, but even a taijutsu specialist like Lee. For someone who relied on ninjutsu solely for defense and offense, having a physical punch land on his face was quite the wakeup call. His reforms, and not the mistrust of a formerly out-of-control jinchuuriki, are the real reasons for the insurgency in the Sand village.
Next time we'll see the aftermath of Lee and Shira's sparring match and go back to the Gaara revolt subplot. Konoha still has three jounin running around the desert tasked to protect him, so I hope we see more of them too. Gai shedding man tears is always a bonus too!
