Death Parade - Episode 6
Another judge, Vi Ginti, examines a male idol and one of his fans. The couple frustrates Ginti with an irregular session.
Heh.
Vi Ginti is just viginti, Latin for the number 20. His cat, which there must be a story on how a cat came to be judged in the afterlife, is named Memine. I presume this is slightly changed from the Latin memini, which means "I remember, or I am mindful of."
This Mayu girl just went to heaven, not purgatory. Playing twister with her favorite idol and sacrificing her life for him? Of course that's heaven.
Mayu's genki fangirling stole the show. It was a great changeup in tone to match her personality.
Even how they showed the guests looking at the roulette board was all about Mayu.
Ginti had a much more sadistic streak than we've been seeing with Decim. Perhaps this is the style of judging Nona prefers, which is why Ginti is higher in the hierarchy than Decim.
Ha. The cat is in charge of pushing the Twister button.
Ginti's remote for death mode in the game looked just like Decim's, which Kurokami smashed during the Death Arcade game. We didn't see Decim use that during the Darts and Bowling episodes. Maybe Decim still has to learn more harshness. I'm getting a bad feeling about what Nona was like as a judge before she became manager...
The judging didn't end up the way Ginti wanted. I guess there's some prejudging that goes along with the memories he receives, but he needs to test those motivations. Not only that, Mayu totally dominated his pace. Irrepressible!
Ha! Romantic Titanic reference with weird Twister poses!
Oho! Non-flashy Mayu just rocked Harada's and Ginti's world!
You can take the fangirl cover off the girl, but Mayu was still the same fangirl on the inside.
Well, what happened at the end? Is this another of those long pauses before the happy dead people board the elevator to Heaven? Or is Mayu going to end up like Kurokami because it was a bad test?
A small performance by a dead idol even brings Clavis, Decim and Kurokami to the banquet hall. Was everyone a fan of Cross Heart Attack?
Hmm.
After being introduced last episode as Decim's superior, it was only natural to see how Ginti works. He is much less polite, but the rhythm of when he reveals things to the subjects was still the same. As to why Harada and Mayu didn't immediately board the elevators to their destinations, I think the two younger judges are hitting upon what Nona was telling Oculus - they need to find ways to counter boredom. Maybe it's not so rare to have a trial where both dead people end up happy, and the judges take advantage of the opportunity to have some fun and make nice memories.
This still has me wondering how these particular couple are grouped together. Thematically, we had an idol killed because of philandering with his groupies paired with a pure superfan. But it didn't seem like Mayu needed to be judged for anything. She lived a short life, tried to be a little different in school by over-accessorizing, and then died by slipping in the bathroom. Like I said earlier, she went to her heaven just by showing up in Ginti's bar.
We've seen Clavis have hints of a goofy personality, which was confirmed here, but who knew about Decim? Deadpan humor, yes. Deadpan goofy? Is that a thing? I'm totally appreciating these very different episodes to provide characterization for the employees of the afterlife. I'm looking forward to more stuff like this. Not necessarily funny episodes with great new characters, but just the sudden changes in directing. That is certainly one way to alleviate boredom.
