Cross Ange - Episode 13
Julio's fleet attacks Arzenal. Ange and Vilkiss reveal new powers while Embryo shows off his own. Season premiere.
Meh.
We had new opening and ending songs, but the scenes were only slightly edited from the previous season. There was a production problem over the holiday break, according to the director, so they had to scramble to make an acceptable pair of scenes for the premiere. Apparently not so acceptable... At least we found out that some of the scenes for the credits aren't supposed to have clothing on them, which will be corrected for the blu-rays. Groveling for the viewers or sneaky promotions for the disks? I'm leaning toward the latter.
Heh.
Ange got to shoot her brother in the leg, but it was Embryo who finished the job. Good. Kind of overkill, though, with the special attack.
Different songs and emotions bring out different colors on these original para-mails. Ange will have to learn some new songs then.
As if Embryo weren't enigmatic enough, but piloting, or somehow controlling, a flying ship while standing on its shoulder is throwing out all sorts of omnipotence vibes. Plus floating all by himself over a huge hole carved into ocean water.
At first I thought Embryo was going to be some ruthlessly compassionate being after he started healing almost dead, or very recently dead Norma.
But then he decided to, ah, evaporate Julio so Ange wouldn't poison her soul with sin. Okay, more questions about this guy.
Riza doesn't seem to be on the Embryo's side either.
I think we would have had a very different story if all the DRAGONs popping out of those singularities looked like Riza.
Embryo said his orders were to capture Ange, the Vilkiss and the Norma. Julio somehow interpreted this to mean just para-mail pilots and to slaughter the rest. Embryo's Norma indoctrination on the mana users was too successful. I'm not sure why Embryo chose Chris and the little girl in Ersha's arms to heal, but Ersha was glad for it.
Hmm.
The second half of Cross Ange began with a whole bunch of explosions and action. The settings and story have basically been reset. The Norma are now aboard a huge ship from where they can launch their rebellion - Operation Libertas. The main plot hinges on Embryo and this other DRAGON princess. We no longer have to worry about the mana users being in charge showing off their Norma bigotry. That lesson got ground into the pavement after Hilda's and Ange's escape.
I'm very interested in all these Norma girls sprouting wings and running around half naked, ahem, these DRAGON characters on the other side and how they relate to the Norma on this side. But first, we're going to get a bit of breather while Tusk buries himself in Ange's crotch admiring her hair again. Oh, maybe that won't happen because Vivian will be with them. This way we'll get some exposition from Tusk's perspective and give the Libertas ship time to run around the ocean and look all professional when Ange and Tusk rejoin them.
I mean, how boring would it be for a whole episode of sailors tightening bolts, repairing flying fighters, and attending to the wounded survivors? Nope, we're going to get Ange and Tusk playing house with their pet dragon Vivian in some mysterious location. Maybe the anime producers will have their opening and ending credits ready by next week too.
