Madara recovers one of his Rinnegan and immediately sets about returning the tailed beasts to the Gedo statue.

Madara is mean. He belittles Obito for taking years to collect the tailed beasts within the Gedo statue, saying he'll do it in a few seconds. All of the beasts are right in front of him and only two are still within their jinchuuriki. Obito had to assemble a team strong enough to capture jinchuuriki alive from wherever they were scattered and then extract them through the use of Pain by Nagato. Show a little gratitude and respect for the effort. Sheesh.

 

Killer Bee and the 8-tails have escaped extraction before because of the properties of an octopus based animal (really a starfish arm, but an arm is an arm in anime, roll with it) but Naruto has never been this close to having Kurama taken from him.

 

Madara is like Jason from the Friday the 13th movies, just busting out of death pits when you think you got him.

 

One thing fun about a pictographic alphabet is the visual puns that cultures make out of their words.

By writing the kanji for "receive" in one hand and the mirror image for "heart" in the other, the previous jinchuuriki of Shukaku the one-tail demonstrates what all the tailed beasts need from their hosts - love. The kanji for "love" 愛 is a combination of "receive" 受 and "heart" 心, with heart at the center. Love is receiving one's heart.

 

Hmm.

All that work to defeat the Akatsuki and the whole story is back to the beginning, with a rinnegan user stuffing tailed beasts into a scary statue. What have we been looking at for 391 episodes?

 

I don't know if Obito feels any sense of betrayal from the Zetsu who have been with him since Madara rescued him. Each one had a personality and they had been a part of him, but to find out they were never really his allies or his friends must give him a really low feeling after all the time they've spent with him. It must be like a criminal crew working on their last big score only to have one of them betray the rest at the last moment. It also means that Obito never could have kept any secrets from Madara after he was revived. Trying to keep even one rinnegan from Madara as insurance was never going to work with the original Zetsus inhabiting his body.
