Akame ga Kill! - Episode 17
The combatants survive Boris' Emperor's Tool self-destruction, but Boris does not escape Chelsea. Kurome kills Chelsea, who attempted to kill her.
Geh.
This show is brutal. Death flags were flying for several characters during this battle, but it looked like time was up for poor Chelsea. We had time for a quick flashback showing her origin story as an assassin for justice, killing her first victim in a field of hydrangeas. Bookending her career, she died in a similar place. Fingers cut off as her Emperor's Tool was destroyed, an arm cut off, and shot in the back, she wasn't getting up from those blood stained flowers. As if we needed a reminder who the bad guys are, Kurome left her head on a pike as a warning to all.Heh.
Now we're never going to see how good looking Boris is. We've got hints about his blue eyes and blonde hair and how cute is daughter is with those traits. Of course we're going to be curious. Esdeath too.Just as Boris was too hard on himself for being a bad person for following orders, I'm sure he was too self-conscious about his face. Whether he was just too good looking for his line of work, or he had a rakish scar to match the one on his chest, all we know is that Esdeath was moved to appreciate whatever was under his mask.
Maybe his warm eyes reminded her of Tatsumi?
Like how Sheele died, Boris remembered the happy times he had with his comrades, but regretted most not seeing his lovely wife and daughter again. He knew that his sins in service to the Empire would have to be punished sooner or later, and his time came.
Thank goodness! Lubbock's threads combined with Leone's regeneration means she can have her arm reattached. We got a scare when she collapsed after telling Akame is going to have to work harder now. Those are deathbed words! I'm not sure why Akame acts like a junior in love her senior when she thinks about this healing ability.
Tatsumi is confused too. I dunno. I can't even speculate here.
I'm just so happy Leone Mai Waifu survived all this, and her nice body will be intact again. Kurome still needs to die for temporarily disfiguring her, though.
Hmm.
In terms of losses, Najenda is still ahead of Esdeath, losing 3 directly under her command to Esdeath's 4. We didn't have Chelsea with Night Raid very long and we didn't find out how she lost her former team. Wanting to impress Tatsumi appears to be reason for Chelsea acting more recklessly than she normally would have. She let her emotions cloud her judgment, operating with insufficient intelligence on her target. We know that the Empire likes using doping methods and prosthetics for its soldiers and agents, so it's not just the characteristics of the Emperor's Tool that Night Raid has to worry about. This is how Sheele died too, by not knowing all the weapons at the Seryu's disposal. A pure assassin such as Chelsea had no margin for error, and she erred.Kurome's new drug treatment, which Akame did not know about, was the source of the intelligence failure. It has basically made her like one of her puppets: unable to be stopped unless dismembered. And we know why she has to keep eating her snacks, because the drug takes an exhausting toll on her body. She is a hungry walking undead. Chelsea discovered this new information, but didn't have a chance to return with it to Night Raid, so I expect Kurome's trait to factor later in the story.
Now Night Raid is one member short again. Will we get a new character before the next phase of the story? Are Night Raid and the Jaegers declaring a stalemate before dealing with the rebellious church? Boris, rest in peace. Chelsea, may you be avenged.
