Part flashback episode, part new beginnings, we see a world without Rurumo for a short while. The gang then welcomes in the new year.

Heh.

Kouta's friends are so shy in asking if it's okay if his "little sister" Rurumo can come with them to the new year's festival.

Nice guy Shibaki works hard for the money. To rent Rurumo a beautiful kimono, of course.

People forgot about Rurumo, but the physical evidence of her presence was not. That's not a very good magic spell.

With Rurumo forgotten, Mama Shibaki thinks there is only one reason Kouta made and borrowed money.

He better not go assaulting any girls. Mama has a solution for that kind of behavior.

She's not wrong either. Officer Iida presents an inviting target for Kouta-boating.

Hah! Kouta-blocked again! We understand the attraction, though. And so does Kouta's friend.

There was evidence that this show either padded the source material to get to 12 episodes, or cut a lot out to get the series under 12 episodes. We have a shot of some very detailed characters in the crowd for some reason.

Who are they? What's their relation to the show? Questions without answers in this final episode.

The real star of the show got to make some memorable scenes in a last hurrah.

Chiro and her slightly suspicious and cynical eyes!

Hmm.

Rurumo's educational evaluation required people to forget she was ever in people's lives, which made the episode an homage to It's A Wonderful Life. It was a bit different because the physical evidence was still there. She was in pictures and her name tag was still on her door, it was just her memories removed from people. Kouta almost remembered her despite the spell, and it caused him great pain, as if he almost broke the spell. The spell was only temporary, and we got to see Rurumo in her cute kimono.

We weren't given the results of her evaluation, so we don't know where the story goes from here. But we did see some growth in her personality as she smiled a little at tasting some good hot pot. I don't know if she's learning to be a good witch, but she's learning to be a less awkward person. The nice moment Kouta and Rurumo shared as they held hands hints that they will be facing the future together, giving the audience a nice send-off as well.

Final Thoughts.

The premise of the show and how the first two episodes went appeared to promise a progression in Kouta protecting the secret penalty of using the magic tickets and Rurumo's own advancement as a witch. Instead, the show settled into a situational comedy with an adventure set up for each episode, but with fluid continuity. The only advancement we saw in Rurumo was her slight more expressive demeanor and her growing attraction to Kouta. Some of the characters around Kouta and Rurumo changed as well, as they became more friendly with the separate groups in Kouta's orbit.

It was a slightly fluffy show with much cartoon sexiness played up for humor, but there was a real soft center of sentiment. The episode with Jiken the kitten who died showed us that the characters have much more to offer. This is why I was a bit disappointed that the overall story of Rurumo's witch training didn't go anywhere. The fluffy comedy aspects of the show were fine in their own right, as well as getting to know the other characters and how they all became friends with each other because they were friends with Rurumo and Kouta first.

A fun little story that didn't really go anywhere, but had fun characters and comedic sexiness. Check it out for the Kouta-boating, but stay for Chiro the cat.
