Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - Episode 23

Some seemingly premature epilogue scenes mixed in with new characters and robots mean the big magical TED Talk is a pause before the action arrives.

Heh.

It's a given that Zhou and Chen have bigger plans than just trying to steal the Relic. We've got a big boat, a big truck, and big robots assembling.

Cardinal George had a nice dismissive sniff on Tatsuya's gravity-contained nuclear fusion: "Oh, just more loop-casting like that flying spell?" Ichihara announced a hope that the devices that magic users had to initialize to start the containment would get more efficient in the future, because using the flying spell template now tires out those users very quickly.

Lots of negotiating for leaving territory alone. Zhou and Chen came to an agreement about Chinatown in Yokohama. Fujibyashi and Ono, or Electron Sorceress and Ms. Phantom, wrangle over observing certain operations during the Thesis Competition.

Does Erika get along with any of her brothers? I'm sure the elder Chiba was just feeling chipper from that nice date he had with Fujibayashi the night before.

In another note to make sure you know that there are no civilians at a Magic Specialty School, Ichihara pays a visit to the recovering collaborator Chiaki. Probably using her aroma magic, she tells Chiaki that she could be a better engineer than Tatsuya because he's not that great at hardware, hopefully channeling her resentment into rivalry. She admits later that this was a lie. Can't out-BAMF a BAMF in prototype assembly.

We got a nice reunion scene with Masaki and Miyuki. Miyuki was just being polite, but Masaki is still smitten by her beauty. Poor Jouji.

Hmm.

This episode was mainly stage setting for the next few episodes. I do have to wonder why the Asian Alliance needs to attack the venue to steal something. Are they going after one of the demonstration models? With how this anime likes to show you hints before dropping that story bit in front of you, I'm guessing it has to do with whatever Jouji put together for his thesis. The Mahoukaverse has established its reputation for efficient storytelling.
