Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - Episode 20
The thesis competition becomes the target for espionage, which is why the Chinese infiltrators came to Japan. Different parts of Tatsuya's life intersect again.
Meh.
It feels like time constraints are causing some confusion. When the collaborator, who wants to take revenge on Tatsuya for some reason, gets caught spying on Kei, Kanon, and Tatsuya, she lays down a flashbang. When Kanon prepares a spell next, Kei warns her not to use it and Tatsuya cancels it out. Why? We didn't get an after-action report like we did with the flaming SUV thrown against the bus in the last arc. Then we have Jiro Marshall running away from Erika and Leo after their encounter. He's talking to someone that his cover has been blown. Meanwhile Fujibayashi is monitoring the traces of magic outside the cafe the kids were in. Is she talking to Jiro? The inside of her car has monitors with pictures of Erika, Leo, and Mikihiko who each used magic of some kind. She sounds like she's just talking to herself, so who is Jiro talking to?
Heh.
Of course. Mr. BAMF doesn't need a bodyguard. Har. That is to laugh.Nurse Ono seemed awfully reserved with Tatsuya. Did she find out what he did with the location of the No-Head Dragons and she's kind of pissed about it? He did claim it was just for insurance, not a set-up for a slaughter.
What a coincidence, as in not a coincidence at all, that the cafe the kids like going to belongs to the son of the cafe owner in Yokohama who happens to be an information broker. These are anime odds, so that means the chances of this kind of connection are pretty close to one hundred percent. Oh, and notice how Miyuki and Honoka have to sit on either side of Tatsuya. Uh huh.
The flirting scene between Mayumi and Tatsuya was pure gold!
Mayumi pouts from not getting a reaction.
Tatsuya keeps talking about another girl, and Mayumi has to obviously put his attention on her.
"I'm sorry big sister has the body of a child!" Ah. Tatsuya now realizes she's playing with him like usual. His wry humor turns the tables on her.
"I'm not an exhibitionist." Oh, there are cameras in the little study booth! But if there weren't, I would do this and that...
Hahahaha! Dat face on Tatsuya. How you like that flirting, Mayumi? BAMF blushing power level 9000.
The little scene with Leo taking down Jiro Marshall after receiving a big kick, confirming that his family's school of magic has modified his body to make him much stronger, also confirms why he was able to take Masaki's air bullets and get up afterward. What the Yotsubas did to Tatsuya wasn't unique in theory, but their modifications were on an entirely different level than the other clans.
Hmm.
So, who is this collaborator that wants revenge on Tatsuya? Is she the one responsible for the hacking attempt at the Shiba house? The infiltrators weren't even aware of the Shibas until they started digging into their stepmother's information to find that relic.Tatsuya is connecting dots between the research on the relic and the spiritual magic targeting his school that, according to Mikihiko, isn't Japanese in origin. Just like the different interests surrounding the Nine Schools Competition, the Thesis Competition brings out other agents of industrial and national espionage.
I figure we have one more episode to lay out more of the clues for where the rest of this story is going before the end. We need to find out who this collaborator is, and what Tatsuya did to make her want revenge. After that, it's the big TED talk about magical nuclear fusion containment, before we have a chase and a confrontation. It's almost BAMF'ing time again.
