Akame ga Kill! - Episode 8
Bulat and Tatsumi prevail over Esdeath's Three Beasts. Tatsumi gains his own Emperor's Tool at the cost of Bulat's life. Tatsumi's introduction to the assassin's world is over and a new chapter begins.
Geh.
The dying and the killing never stops in this show. Bulat dies in front of Tatsumi, bestowing on him his Emperor's Tool Incursio. At least his death was in the middle of a fight, instead of being shot in the back like Sheele. However, the method by Liver was still sneaky, because he got him with poison (iocane powder that he had an immunity towards?) he injected into his blood. The hint about compatibility with the Emperor's Tool and first impressions wasn't if the Tool liked you, but if you liked the Tool. With how Tatsumi thinks all the Night Raid members' Tools are cool, he might just be able to use all of them. They better not be killing Leone in two episodes, because I don't know if I'd keep watching. If all it takes for former General Liver to become the enforcer to a very odd, sadistic woman is a boot ground in his head, a peek up her skirt, and the promise of going back to army life, I'm not so sure Bulat should have been admiring his former commander.
Oh, maybe it was the look down her shirt. That's how she always closes the deal!
Heh.
In the course of the fight, we got a few more hints about how these Emperor's Tools were made, and the wild magical creatures they used. That some beast with crazy regenerative powers would still be alive in the suit is amazing. We also found out what Bulat kept in the back carapace: the actual Tool, a sword with the beast's eye in it.With Bulat gone, where are we going to go for our inappropriate yaoi jokes? We may need to get some new Night Raid members.
Kurome could be 黒目, which means "black eyes" and Akame could be 赤目, which means "red eyes." Funny how that works out in anime...
Hmm.
An almost all action episode, with a short flashback, ratcheted up the tension. I can't say that Bulat's death was a surprise, but with how long the battle was going, I kept hoping maybe he would find a way out of it. But no, this is Akame ga Kill! People die in this show.I'm curious to see where we go next. We got a short sighting of what Akame's sister is doing now, and it doesn't look like she's been a good girl. That explains why Akame's first action upon seeing her with the brain washing technique by the executioner was to strike her down.
Sheele's death was shocking, but Bulat's was less so. I'm not sure if that was because as a viewer, I've learned my lesson to expect death at every turn, or just the nature of how they died. With Tatsumi using Incurso, he'll probably use the sword in contrast to how Bulat just kept it near him and used a halberd instead. That'll be neat to see. And please, don't kill Leone. She's mai waifu!
