Majimoji Rurumo - Episode 1

Rurumo, a shy, clumsy witch in training, must convince Kouta to use up all his magic tickets in granting his wishes to graduate. Unbeknownst to her, using each ticket shortens Kouta's life. This magical gag comedy focuses on school life, fan service, and a bit of romance.

Heh.

This little cat black cat Chiro is going to steal the show.

Kouta flipped girls' skirts a little longer than the other guys in his class, and got the reputation of being the Ero King. I like that even though he hates that reputation because it prevents him from getting any female friends, he can't quite give up on it either because it feels nice to be recognized.

Rurumo is a really slow learner, and she doesn't think fast on her feet either. Dude wishes for panties, and she just gives him her own, even though it's against the Witch's Code to give mortals any of her belongings. She's going to need a lot of training...

Just how did Kouta get roped into the Occult Research Club anyway? Because his friends joined? They're all normal guys wanting to meet girls, so I'm confused on how they thought this club would help in that way.

Kouta can't escape his Ero King reputation because almost all his buddies from middle school followed him to high school. Even worse, the disciplinary committee leader has known him since grade school.

Why would a talking cat have a Kansai accent?

Okay, Kouta has to admit that being trusted with all the other boys' stash of porno mags has affected his attention span.

He may be a nice guy after he gets past his first inclinations to fixate on bras and panties, but just like with the skirt flipping when he was younger, it takes him a little longer to act like that nice guy.

Hmm.

Both Rurumo and Kouta have a strong sense of duty, which manifests in strange ways, which is the core of the comedy in this show. Kouta can't escape the Ero King title because, not only does he like the recognition, but he also feels the obligation of protecting the natural impulse of the dudes in his class to like sexy girls. It's an important job to be the Keeper of the Porn. It requires trust, a non-judgment on the other guys' preferred types, and a finely honed appreciation of the perverted. Didn't I say his sense of duty gets expressed in ways that will get him in trouble? At the same time, he finally wants to outgrow his reputation so he can find a girlfriend, and he knows nice girls don't like creeps. Well, the comedy in this show will tackle that kind of development of his nice guy reputation.

As for Rurumo, I'm actually worried she has developmental problems. Her use of magic seems fine, but her normal interactions appear awkward, and only her kuudere tendencies gloss over that awkwardness, until they build up so much a comedy gag pops out. Her sense of duty also means that she won't ask for help when she needs it, because tied in with that duty is a need for independence. She doesn't want to owe anyone, or be a bother to anyone. That leads to solitude, which explains her lack of socialization, and also explains why she would rather go to jail than ask for her panties back. It's also why Chiro the cat asks Kouta not to tell Rurumo about how the tickets shorten his life and that when all the tickets are gone, he will die.

I wonder why those tickets got sent to Kouta. When he performed his summoning contract to wish for panties, the contract in the magic book had the fine print that the wish would be granted in exchange for his life. Since he gave the panties back, the wish was never granted, and Rurumo didn't have to go to prison for giving a mortal something she owns. I figure this ticket book will be related to this contract, but we'll have to find out the details on why this method was used to fulfill it.

That's all kind of heavy for a gag comedy, but the motivation for the story and the comedy is this clash of senses of duty, wanting to change a bad reputation, and having people learn about the people behind the Ero King exterior and the awkward, supposedly self-reliant witch.
