Fuuun Ishin Dai Shogun - Episode 4
Keiichiro's maiden harem grows by one. A female pirate named Marika, you say? Hyogo surprises Kiriko.
Heh.
Oh, Japan. You sure do love your gender bending stories, don't you. But you can't fool Hyakusuke if that "man" is wearing high-heeled boots. So, uh, do all flying female pirates have to be named Marika? At least this one has rokketto panchi!
How did that Marika lady know Susanoo was under the bathhouse? We finally got to see where Susanoo "lives" down there, too.
Granny ninja is wily in the ways of men's and women's clothing, and she always gets what she wants. Like a new bathhouse worker.
Chiharu and Kiriko sure aren't happy with having a new addition to Keiichiro's harem, and a self-admitted virgin too. Plus, they didn't really have much to do this episode, just kinda hanging out.
Having a triangle was bad enough, but now we have a man-hating cross-dresser added to the mix, who I'm sure will be extra grateful to someone who reminds her of her father in bringing her out of her shell. Actually, her reasons for coming to hate men in her journey to find someone with the Tokugawa seal is pretty plausible, having to cross-dress just to stop from being harassed and to be allowed through city gates, which reminds us of the time frame we're dealing with, notwithstanding big steam powered robots and cyborg pirates with missile fists.
Geh.
Hyogo is bigger than Kiriko... according to Kiriko! Isn't it great that this show is set in a bath house?
Hmm.
There were actually some overall story developments this week. We know that Susanoo is more than just a puppet, but an Onigami, like Granny keeps calling it. An ogre god. It has a will of its own, and its will seems to be to protect its Tokugawa pilot when his life is in danger. In this episode, it only started moving around when Hyogo was about to skewer Keiichiro, so Kiriko and Chiharu running up to the pirate ship wasn't necessary at all. We also see that there is a black market for Japanese robot technology to be sold to foreigners. Setting the story in Nagasaki is apt, because martial technology was renowned here in the closing years of the Shogunate before 1868 and the start of the Meiji restoration. And we have some questions about how Hyogo's father is related to the Shogun's business. For some reason he was opposed to Shigeyoshi, our main villain. Wow. Plot.
Finally, how much repair work does this bath house get? There doesn't seem to be a safe way for Susanoo to get out of his lair, or at least he hasn't yet through 4 episodes. But I'm really looking forward to seeing Kiriko and Hyogo take a ride with Keiichiro... in Susanoo I mean.
