Kill la Kill - Episode 5
Two things to know about Tsumugu Kinigase: 1) He likes sewing machines. 2) He likes acupuncture. Oh, here's a third thing: He likes giving you 2 pieces of information before taking you out.
With the entry Tsumugu Kinigase, we're introduced to the larger world of Kill la Kill, where anti Life Fiber forces are still waging a losing war against the Kiryuin's plan of uniting the country under the thumb of Life Fiber users. Kinigase and Aikuro the teacher are agents of a group called Nudist Beach, who oppose the Kiryuins by using their own life fiber suits, except Kinigase has gone rogue because one of their own members died in an earlier attempt at developing one. He wants to destroy Ryuko's Senketsu suit before it does the same to her.
His first battle with her ends up attracting other clubs in the school, which is just fine by the Student Council, since they want to gather intelligence on Kinigase's anti-life fiber weapons, whose needles can sever the bonds between a life fiber suit and its user. Apparently, he's also very good at acupuncture, as Mako wakes up feeling refreshed and full of energy after being put down. Aikuro tries to warn him off, but he refuses, and round two brings in all the cultural clubs.
After cornering Ryuko and stripping her uniform off, only a Mako moment saves the day.
Um, this has happened before, right? Mako says extremely embarrassing things about Ryuko, and creates an opening for the fight to end. In this case, Mako makes the point that one of Ryuko's only friends is her sailor suit, because she's so poor and so crazy that she has full-blown conversations with it. Not helping, Mako... But the interruption does convince Kinigase that the uniform is sentient, first to take a shot meant for Ryuko, and then actually talking to him, making it clear that Senketsu and Ryuko are close partners.
Now we can see where the larger story is going, and why this particular school is so important. At some point we'll have to see the origins of Nudist Beach, how Ryuko's father died, and some big, huge, outrageous battle to end the story.
