Kyoukai no Kanata - Episode 2

All that work to kill a youmu, and the bounty is only 10 bucks? Mirai better get over her aversion to killing those things quick, or she won't make the rent.

In this second episode of Beyond the Boundary, we get to meet a few more of the regular characters, how the whole youmu bounty hunting thing works, and how crazy, sexy, embarrassing Akihito's mom is. Hubba, hubba, nyaa! This show isn't just K-ON kills monsters for money, but also a heavy dose of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, but with real powers. Mirai's blood shaping powers are overpowered, and her battle skills, once she gets going, are top notch. But she definitely has confidence issues, especially in delivering the final blow, with some flashes of memory alluding to the source.

We get an introduction to the larger story arc here too, as the embarrassing magic mail from Akihito's mom warns him of a Hollow Shadow kind of monster approaching his town, which may also make the other small-fry monsters more aggressive. Akihito's dual nature of youmu and spirit warrior presents a special risk for him since he has a treaty with the other clans not to get involved with their business. Things are already looking interesting. The fighting sequences and the humor are both done well, so I'm pretty happy in picking up this show for the Fall. I'm curious to see what would happen if Mirai were forced to fight without her glasses, since she doesn't appear to be looking through them most of the time.
