It's Joaquim "Purito" Rodriguez's birthday today, turning 33 years old. Now, where does that "Purito" nickname come from? According to Carlton Kirby, commentator on Universal Sports, a purito is a type of small cigar popular in Spain, and when Rodriguez first turned pro with the Once team back in 2001, at their first training camp, he passed his teammates on a small climb, gesturing that he was smoking a cigar. His teammates didn't really like that, so they made him smoke a real cigar later that night.
