10 Second Anime - Yowamushi Pedal - Episode 5

Yowamushi Pedal - Episode 5

Naruko comes to Onoda's school and gets him to join the Bicycle Racing Club. The captain had planned on only 2 new race team members, but somehow a climbing wildcard entered the mix.

First off, I would like to take this time to note that the Yowamushi Pedal manga is very popular in Otome Road in Ikebukuro, where many, ah, manga and anime titles geared toward women are sold. Young, muscular men, clad in skin tight lycra, giving knowing glances to each other while their legs are pistoning and sweat drips from their bodies, yeah, I can see that. Ahem.

While fighting for bread, and realizing that all this extra cycling he's been doing is making him hungrier than usual, Onoda discovers that Naruko has transferred to his school. Naruko tells him that he's going to join the Bicycle Road Racing Club, since he was the sprinter ace at his old school in the Kansai district. As a sprinter, it's all about the win at the end, which Naruko says feels better than kissing a girl or feeling them up. Eh... Anyway, after being briefly introduced to Ask-me-anything Sugimoto, Onoda decides to join the Road Racing Club with Naruko. Unfortunately, today is the day the team is already deciding on who will join them for tournaments by having their first race on 60 km hilly course.

Imaizumi and Naruko are up for it, and start warming up on rollers. The other kids warm up on trainers, since their form and balance isn't good enough yet. Onoda gets up on rollers for the first time and impresses the seniors and the other first-years. The captain, Kinjou, thought he would add only two of the new kids to the team, but the undiscovered climbing god is making his decision more difficult. I hope we don't get a lot of shots of bikes stopped in the middle of a climb as we watch this race.

And this week's cycling porn is more bike brands.

We see the seniors riding Trek and Specialized, while the new kids are on Colnago, Giant, and Cannondale. Of course, Onoda is still riding his mommy-bike with one gear in the back and a double Shimano crank. First time I've ever seen a bike like that on rollers. Nice!
