The cute girls do more cute things, at the school, at the café, and at the special market, before things get serious. Shaura Gorgon the witch attacks Eternal Feather.

The only way Clay knows how to protect his cover is to make a confession of love, no matter how awkward or improbable it would be. I'm sure there are certain fans of Japanese pop culture who would love a Clay and Mr. Sid pairing...

At the Deathbucks Caffe, the Master is still the scariest one there, no matter how tough the Thompson sisters try to act. I think they're getting better at their jobs. Maybe a little bit...

They brought all the right things, just not to the right person. The rude waitress niche is still being filled.

Jackie and Kim seem to be having a good time being each other's partner, although I've never seen Kim wield Jackie like a flamethrower. Tsugumi likes watching their banter and seeing Kim get all tsundere about it. Kim doesn't like that part too much, though.

A trip to the cafe wouldn't be complete if they couldn't put on the maid outfits if things get busy. Jackie especially wants to try on the uniform.

I thought Anya got over wearing a short skirt during the week she worked there. I guess her bashfulness grew back. And poor Tsugumi doesn't like being the pettanko of the group. You still look cute, Gumi-tan!

The best bit was Kim almost trying on the maid outfit too, and Tsugumi giving her that look that says, "Oh, you try to act all cool, but you're still a girl like everyone else." Noogies for you again, Tsugumi!

All the scenes at the market were great. From Anya trying to signal Tsugumi that they should go, to getting excited over kitsch, to Eternal Feather trying to sell useless stuff that Kim pranked her into buying. We even got some more of that familiar back-and-forth between Maka and Soul that we saw in the original Soul Eater. But that was all just to make us comfortable before Shaura made her move to start some chaos in Death City.

Meh.

What was up with that fight scene between Eternal Feather and Maka and Soul Eater? It's like they forgot to put the primary cels of animation in with the in-betweener frames. That looked terrible.

Hmm.

We started getting signals that the main story was going to get serious, and, boy did it. We're still getting lots of hints that Tsugumi is being too indecisive about picking a partner, and how a good weapon and meister team complements and supplements the other, like with Clay and Akane. I think Tsugumi has the wrong idea that a partner has to be your best friend, though I'm sure that doesn't have to be a hindrance, but they do need to have a synchronicity or working relationship of sorts. The opening sequence hints at what they should be aiming at: a dance partner.

As for the Big Bad Witch. she got Eternal Feather to be her first direct victim and agent of chaos. Nice reveal that Eternal Feather is a butterfly knife. Lots of twirling and slashing for her style. And the final scene where Shaura makes her cut her own throat. Whoa. It's understandable that Tsugumi, who grew up as a normal girl, would faint at the sight of so much blood.

If there's surgery involved to save Eternal Feather, that can only mean one of the funniest characters from the original show is going to make an appearance: Dr. Stein, as in Frankenstein. I'm looking forward to all the stitch marks he has all over his office, and all the pranks he likes to play. I also hope he doesn't have to turn Eternal Feather into a zombie!
