The blue jersey (maglia azzurra) for the climbing points leader has only been blue since 2012. This blue is the brand color for current sponsor Banca Mediolanum. The Italian bank became the jersey sponsor in 2012 and part of the sponsorship agreement changed the jersey color from green to blue. Green used to match the color of the mountains but now it matches the color of the sky above those high mountains. That's what the bank marketing team claims, but jersey colors matching sponsors' brands is not new to any of the Grand Tours. The green sprinter jersey of the Tour de France matches the color of its first sponsor, a lawnmowing equipment company.
