Iwa Kakeru! Sport Climbing Girls - Episode 5 - Sayo Victory Pose

Sayo's elegant presence shows exactly why she earned the nickname Princess of Lead.

We saw a flashback of how Nonoka met Sayo and followed her into a serious climbing pastime.

The preliminary round of the Kanto bouldering championships meant the favorites needed to make a good showing to get to the next round. We saw Masumi the Black Panther, Chigusa the Muscle Madam, Kurea the Ballerina of Rock, and of course Sayo the Princess of Lead. The route setter Nakada loved seeing his wall defeat newer climbers like Akane.

Konomi started building her reputation, and pissing off the route setter, by sending a problem on her first try and being the first girl to send it! Nonoka started foreshadowing her lack of confidence early on and she proved correct. The wall problems made short limbs a big disadvantage, even when you climbed them "the right way."

In contrast to Nonoka's failure, Iwamine the Climbing Spider showed that, with her long and tall body, she could climb a wall any way she wanted. The prissy route setter pitched a fit at what he saw.

As time ran out for the climbers to get as many points as possible, we saw some of the secondary characters have a chance to shine, like the samurai talking Satou, Jun needing to be patient and execute her planned solution, and Akane trying to do more of her bad mojo. Chigusa and Kurea grabbed the spotlight a couple of times too.

When the points were all tallied, the final leader board showed the usual favorites take the top spots, Jun made the top ten, and Konomi passed through at the 20th position. Nonoka did not make the cut. It seems like Sayo has needed to comfort Nonoka many times before at the Kanto championships because Sayo has never gone to the Nationals as a team. She has a chance now that both Jun and Konomi made the semifinals and they need at least three qualifying members. Konomi and Jun have extra motivation to win for Nonoka now.
