Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T - Episode 23 - 10 Second Anime

Scavenger fools Mikoto into working with them to capture the Doppelganger.

#23 – “Possession”

Hmm.

It’s funny that Railgun doesn’t take its own endgame seriously. In the middle of a plot where the characters have explicitly foreshadowed that the Big Bad will become a city destroying force we have side characters making jokes about the titular character being so naïve and positive of others’ intentions that she appears dumb. Mikoto isn’t dumb, but she is genuinely a nice girl and expects other people to be nice too. It’s great character development that a strong heroine can have a comic plot point hung around her nice girl personality.

Part of why Railgun needed to devote half of the episode to Scavenger fooling Mikoto into thinking they’re on a Judgment mission was the weakness of turning Doppelganger into a debris-based Godzilla seeking to destroy Academy City. Since this is an Index universe show, anything that’s mentioned on camera becomes an important plot point later, so I expect Doppelganger’s unexplained motivation for wreaking havoc to relate to the stealth ship with her data on it from the unscrupulous company that reassembled her. Strangely, we don’t have a clue yet of what that motivation might be besides recovering her real counterpart’s memories of her mother. The whole point of the cyborg experiment was to create replacement organs for her, so I think there’s a hint here of what Doppelganger wants besides revenge on the research group who created her soul.

Heh.

Can Mikoto be this dumb? Yes, yes she can! Ha, make sure that other dumb girl doesn't blow the scam on the 3rd Rank Level 5. Scavenger is so lucky that Mikoto has friends in Judgment. Now they have to act like goody-goodies so Mikoto keeps working with them.

Nice. Scavenger finished a job successfully! What their boss does with an uncontrollable pile of debris is her problem. They delivered the walking pile of Doppelganger to the right address.

And Mikoto has entered a monster movie. At least she figured out that Doppelganger can't control carbonized material. I'm still waiting for Spiky-kun to make an appearance somehow.

Next time, the original Ryoko will do something to end Doppelganger's rampage.
