The cima coppi, or the highest point of this year's Giro is on the Passo dello Stelvio. The first rider over that point earns a special trophy and a 5,000 Euro prize, which went to time trial specialist Rohan Dennis of Ineos Grenadiers as he shepherded his teammate Tao Geoghegan Hart with eventual winner Jai Hindley of Team Sunweb. The Stelvio Pass has several different names because of its location in the alps between Italy and Switzerland, known as Passo dello Stelvio or Giogo dello Stelvio in Italian and Stilfser Joch in German (giogo and joch mean yoke or ridge). Before the Col de l'Iseran in France was completed in 1936, the Passo dello Stelvio, built between 1820 and 1825 to connect Lombardy to the rest of the Austrian Empire, was the highest alpine pass in Europe. It is only 7 meters lower at an altitude of 2,757 meters.
