10 Second Anime - One-Punch Man - Episode 3

Saitama hoped to find a new challenge at the House of Evolution and make it to the big shopping sale. Genos helped.

Episode 3 - "The Obsessive Scientist"

Heh.

We learned that Saitama has two competing priorities: 1) Save money, and 2) find a strong opponent. We saw that during his three years of harsh training that his extra motivation for not using air conditioning or his heater was to save money. It's entertaining to see him struggle with balancing those two main goals.

I'm reminded of Ore Monogatari in that the main character is boring so the side characters have to be interesting. With the gorilla guy giving the long backstory behind the scientist I. Genus and his clones, we saw that Genos is a quick study and impressionable. The scientist's origin story should have been told in 20 words or less!

Genos and Saitama had to run to the evil scientist's lair. Why? Because regular people can't fly! Like Saitama is regular people...

Genos knows how to turn superhero conventions on their head too. Instead of going through all the traps in a huge building, just blow the whole thing up first! Saitama was all disappointed because he wanted to see what they had in store for them.

Maybe Saitama does have an advantage with being bald.

I had to laugh at the mundane secret of Saitama's strength. 100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 squats and 10K run. Every day with no AC or heater. Apparently this was so hard, his hair fell out after only 18 months. Genos couldn't accept it.

Saitama's crestfallen expression that he didn't impress Genos was classic. I could totally read into it that he was saying, "But, it was really hard..."

I think Saitama's obliviousness is hiding how he became so strong. We got a hint during his story that he was getting strong fighting villains so maybe his training regimen really wasn't the reason behind his strength, but he doesn't know that.

I loved the false tension we got when Saitama was questioning his major mistake. We all knew he wasn't getting hurt, but we still had to wait to find out what was bothering him so much - TODAY was the big sale!

Next time, another organization is after a good guy superhero, but it's not Saitama they're looking for. What will they do when they find Saitama next to him?
