Meaning, I'd like a power meter but there's still a long way to go before they come down in my price bracket; a PowerTap hub sells for about 5 or 6 times what I paid for my Edge 500.

ARPGs? I'm more of a Torchlight type of person, but I don't really like the word gamer, I jokingly refer to myself as a player of games.

Best,
879077Yowamushi Lurkernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30298154.post-1137344732259578802014-05-14T16:59:29.853-07:002014-05-14T16:59:29.853-07:00Oh, I feel the pull to get into all those gadgets,...Oh, I feel the pull to get into all those gadgets, but I recognize that feeling from my gamer days. MOAR stuff. Heh. I've been a gadget guy from way back, so I know how crazy I'll get with the stuff that's out there. The bike is the priority, anime next, and then the one video game I allow myself per year (currently diablo 3 until I get sick of it.) But this is now Grand Tour season, so video game goes bye-bye as I watch leg churning action on TV. I feel like my hobbies are fighting over my eyeball time with the Tour of California on at the same time as the Giro. Plus, sleep has to happen some time in there too...joeschmo1of3https://www.blogger.com/profile/07451773048191872275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30298154.post-58688788949672679782014-05-14T16:17:17.787-07:002014-05-14T16:17:17.787-07:00C'mon man, don't give me that :) you ride ...C'mon man, don't give me that :) you ride with a camera already, and plenty of guys over there are like the go-catch-the-young-man of your other post (and yeah they kick ass). There's no need to stop doing things the old way, too. And BTW we're about the same age :P

You know, I can see where you're coming from there, I do find smartphones a little annoying myself and prefer to carry a traditional dumb phone as in "with keyboard", which is much easier to deal with when I'm drenched in sweat. The only reason I've got a smartphone AND a tablet, is because they were given to me as gifts. I can tell you this, though: it didn't take me too long to switch to a Garmin.

I'm still getting my share of that particular fun because the .fit file from the Garmin gets downloaded to the computer, then uploaded to Strava and Garmin Connect, so I can download a TCX, that is later passed through a hacked (big word there) python script which estimates power, which in turn is fed into Golden Cheetah.

(if you're wondering, I've started this virtual power thing since I got a turbo, it was so cool I wanted it to have power for my outdoor riding too, but too broke to get an actual PM - though now it's mainly a comparison between the performance management data I get from heart rate/TRIMP and the estimated TSS)

The vanilla TCX goes into a SportTracks database which has been recently relegated to just keeping track of mileage of various parts, especially chains as last year I began an experiment with chain rotation which is still undergoing, i.e. I'm currently on my 4th and last chain before I go back to chain 1.

I used to keep a spreadsheet when I ran, but as soon as I saw those 1-sec recorders I knew I wanted one. It took a long long time to get there, actually hadn't the smartphone fallen on my head, who knows how much longer? and then my mind got blown away by the stuff you can do with GPS, the nifty sites and programs.Yowamushi Lurkernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30298154.post-45912617619819457502014-05-08T20:27:54.870-07:002014-05-08T20:27:54.870-07:00Heh. All my stats are done old school geek-wise: putting in some numbers from my cycle computer into database software, making queries, and formatting some html. I call that fun...joeschmo1of3https://www.blogger.com/profile/07451773048191872275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30298154.post-34887688628909869352014-05-08T20:06:55.236-07:002014-05-08T20:06:55.236-07:00So, while you catch your breath a little, what'...So, while you catch your breath a little, what's the matter with you and Strava? I always was a little surprised that I couldn't find you over there, or I would have followed you already.Yowamushi Lurkernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30298154.post-72096477175260463872014-05-06T19:00:24.552-07:002014-05-06T19:00:24.552-07:00Thanks for that.
