Ryou is growing up, but Grandma is still there to celebrate those milestones.

Tusk and Ange's allies find a way to follow her to Embryo's lair to stop his destructive plot. Season Finale.

Hmm.

Embryo finally told us his origins, at least as much as we needed to know for the story. I don't know if he was always called Embryo, but 1000 years after his space-time accident, I suppose he can call himself whatever he wants. He spent 500 years messing with the world that belonged to the Dragons, then another 500 messing with the lazy mana users. It's unclear to me how long before that new world ran out of dracunium that he kidnapped Aura, but it felt pretty recent.

 

All that time being immortal turned him into a horny old bastard too. He got used to using women, slapping them and raping them. It's not an accident that he made hood ornaments on his Ragna-mails that were beautiful naked women. Well, he got what he deserved and that was quite satisfying. His original Ragna-mail had to be destroyed along with his real body, otherwise he could have kept jumping around worlds and taken time to heal. Well done for Tusk and Ange on that score.

The title of the episode was "Love Conquers All." No kidding.

 

God intervened twice with Michael during Maria's trial. Instead of letting the Church of the World handle it, the Church of the Heavens took it over. And it was still in a way that didn't interfere with the actions of the world. Michael just asked witnesses what they thought about Maria. Jeez, why didn't Gilbert think of that?

 

It was obvious Gilbert was just telling Michael what he thought he wanted to hear, but Bernard went mad from heresy. He committed the sin against the Holy Spirit. Even God can't forgive that Sin. You can't tell an angel to his face that you believe in God but you reject Him because you don't need Him anymore. Willful separation from God Himself. That's supposedly how Lucifer was cast down from Heaven.

 

Ezekiel was cast down too, but that was because she developed Free Will. Only human souls are supposed to have that, not an aspect of an archangel. But God's Mercy lets Ezekiel choose her mother.

Oculus' lotus petals may be fast, but Nona was faster. We never did see what her special attack was. Decim had his puppeteer strings and Ginti controlled liquid, but all we saw of Nona was her strength.

 

Decim needed all of Chiyuki's memories to reconstruct her house and her mother to make the ultimate trial. Interesting that his test amounted to a well-conceived version of Ginti's test for Mayu. They both required harming another soul in exchange for a desired result. Ginti's test for Mayu was cruder in the sense that a living person knows what the consequences of death are for someone, but having only been told what the Void was, Mayu didn't have a full picture of what happens to a soul sent there.

 

Nona may be playing the long game against Oculus here. The story focused on people learning that Decim felt emotions, but he and Ginti came to their jobs together, so I suspect he also felt emotions. The epilogue confirms this for me as both Decim and Ginti honor the memories of their human assistants.

There's a new video game for the Senran Kagura girls, and how nice to add an OVA featuring the girls we didn't see from the original series which only followed two of the schools. Each of the ninja schools received an invitation to go to an indoor pool, and after some delays, the swimsuit episode begins. A little fan service, okay, a lot of fan service, some fighting, and of course some great jiggly boob mechanics, and we're reminded of everything we've missed from the last anime.

And so ends the first half of this series for the year. The second half will start for Summer season, so we'll have to wait until June. What I find funny about our otaku standins for this show is that the town Ikebukero is known for Otome Road, which is a string of shops specializing in modern visual media aimed at young women. Erika, the boob groper, is a fujoshi heavy into the Boys' Love genre. But even she can't resist Anri's ample charms.

Haha! Now we know why Tomoya was doing the full-on villain megane pose last episode! He already knew Michiru's other band mates were otaku and their Icy Tail, which is a pun on ai shiteiru (I love you), is an anime cover band. What a shock to find out that you're the only non-otaku in the building before you have to go on stage! Micheru didn't take it well at first, but she got over it. What a fun way to end the "first route" of Tomoya's meta visual novel.

That mystery girl on the cliff last episode was the new armored carrier Taihou. As someone who just watched the anime and doesn't know anything about the online card game, my reaction was more along the lines of "Oh, new character introduced in the last episode? She better be the main character for the sequel."

 

The admiral is fine. I mean, I have to take the girls' word for it. We still never saw him.

 

Taihou didn't do that much, but I guess she's important enough to grab the eye catch.

Even though, Michiru was only introduced last episode in an eye-popping way, the fanservice didn't end there. She's maximizing her limited amount of screen time. Add in her interactions with the other girls, especially her "rivalry" with Eriri, and this show is stepping on the accelerator towards the final episode. Which aired right after!

I didn't like the inferiority complex the Hidden Rain ninja showed off regarding small ninja nations and the five superpowers, but hate and propaganda got to start somewhere if Nagato's message of pain was going to spread around.

 

The other ninja girl's summoning looked pretty similar to the Obito and Kakashi sharingan technique of sticking stuff in another dimension. Where exactly do Tenten's summons come from if they mimic the contract summoning between ninja animals and clone techniques? Is it just instant transportation from somewhere else? Tenten must have a big closet then, especially if she put an ocean in there somewhere...

 

Neither team got a scroll out of this encounter. They better hurry up.

 

Next episode, it's time to see what Ino, Chouji and Sakura are doing. I expect Chouji is going to hear a lot griping between Ino-pig and Forehead-Sakura.

Everybody has to make a final appearance before the winner crosses the finish line, even all those guys who "died." Those guys are still kids, but just because you empty yourself for your teammates or for victory, doesn't mean you just have to quit the race. You can get back up a few minutes later. I have big respect for Shinkai and Tadokoro because they "died" for their teammates, but they still kept pedaling and were able to complain about the last climb like pro sprinters.

 

That's right Arakita. Maybe you shouldn't have pulled that little guy with the glasses out of the peloton. To be fair, he would have found a way to chase you down anyway. That's the kind of racer Onoda turned out to be.

 

500 meters to go can't be that far, can it?

Cernunnos thinks Maria just had a crisis of confidence. A magical being needs to believe in itself first before it can have any power. That sounds okay, but I'm not sure it's that simple with Maria. Once she got a big dose of love and happiness, bladam!

 

Shouting from the hilltops that you've found love is such an innocent thing to do! Summoning forth all sorts of forgotten beings, not so much.

Finds from the Grind - Good Morning Chantry Climb



A nice morning climb up to Chantry Flat. Breakfast included. Ever since I tweaked my training program for this year, I've noticed two differences in my performance as I build my base fitness. First, my downhill average speeds are higher than last year. I don't know why. Second, my top end effort on extreme gradients is faster than last year too. I have a theory for this. One of my tweaks was adding in strength training, which was simply using a heavier gear for starts at intersections, while I train muscular endurance on the position I use for steep climbs, which is holding on to brake hoods. That seems to be working. I won't be doing well on the intermediate climbs until I've built up to peak fitness. Very encouraging results so far.

Lots of action battle action sequences, but there was still time for certain rivals to share their feelings while shooting at each other. That's anime for you.

Embryo - "Arrggh!"

 

I had to laugh at this exchange, first because it was disrespectful towards women and Ange would have given Tusk two black eyes if she heard it, but second, it was exactly how men talk to each other anyway, and third, Tusk claiming to know how many moles are on Ange's inner thigh didn't have to mean they'd been intimate. Crotch Ange was enough for Tusk to figure that out.

 

Finally the dragons crossed over to help out. Leave it to that big gravity dude to have the solution for those killer roombas.

It's almost time for the high school entrance exams and Ryou started feeling the pressure. She startles easily, even from things she sees in nightmares.

 

Ryou really misses her mom. She's always sending Japanese cuisine back in big boxes from the foreign countries where she and her husband are stationed. As for what Ryou's parents do, we're getting vague and interesting hints very similar to what Shiina's family takes care of. According to Kirin's mom, a small city would collapse without them and all Ryou says is that they're "two of the most important people in the world." Sounds way more interesting than forensic accounting.

 

Maybe Kirin should be Ryou's bodyguard!

Chiyuki gains back her memories with Decim's help. Ginti decides Mayu's fate.

Heh.

Ginti is a dick! Because Mayu had been with him so long, a regular game wasn't going to work, but having her choose to send a stranger's soul to the Void in exchange for Harada's was too cruel and personal. And we found out that Ginti had sent Harada's soul into the Void, even after his act of redemption in trying to save Mayu during their game. Has this Ginti guy sent any soul back for Reincarnation?

 

Decim had previously explained that the souls leave their dummies during their final elevator ride and now we know what that looks like. Mayu genuinely thought that Harada's soul had reanimated the dummy, which I think was a lie Ginti told her, but the sequence was vague enough to leave a little hope in there. I think the Harada dummy's eyes just popped open during the fall, but they opened in a linked way instead of some obviously disconcerting doll eyelid blink. There's room for interpretation either way, but the two souls finding each other in the void and merging definitely meant that Mayu got her wish.

 

Nona saw a chance to make something interesting happen because of a bureaucratic snafu and she took it.

Error 404 jokes aside, squee! Tenten arc! Being caught between a genius and two enthusiastic muscle heads forces Tenten to be the level-headed one, but it always comes across as frustration. No wonder this group was chosen as joke fodder for Rock Lee's Springtime of Youth spinoff manga. I still miss that anime adaptation.

 

Tenten wants to be special too, not just convenient. We've seen sometime in the past how Tenten has to prepare her summon scrolls, so her specialization should be preparation and planning.

 

It was a big deal when Guy got serious and brought out his nunchakus, but it should have made sense that he used them to train the weapon specialist Tenten.

 

Guy doesn't just have muscles in his head. He also has wisdom and experience. To bring out bigger summons, you need more chakra and you can get more chakra by increasing your stamina. So Tenten needed to work out so that she could even summon a whole ocean!

Toudou is such a font of foreshadowing. Fukutomi let us know that Manami's wings are like glass when he gets to a summit finish because he just keeps upshifting and draining his legs, but Toudou says climbers only have brains for climbing.

 

Yes, fujoshi, Manami is an M. Go crazy.
