10 Second Anime - One-Punch Man - Episode 5

Saitama and Genos take the Hero Association exams and (barely) successfully join the organization. Genos learns he has much to learn from Master Saitama.

Episode 5 - "The Ultimate Master"

Heh.

So this is the Hero Association. Saitama and Genos were not impressed.

As expected, the physical portion of the exam was a cakewalk, especially for Saitama. Genos aced it too and showed he's a pretty smart kid.

Ha! Saitama barely passed the Hero exams because his written portion was so poor. Bottom of the rankings for him. Meanwhile, Genos got an automatic S-Rank because they think he's responsible for the destruction of the House of Evolution. He didn't volunteer that Saitama carried his mangled body out of the basement.

They must have really toughened up the scoring if they were the only two people to pass that day. And what the hell is Saitama wearing!? Why would he even put that "big breasts" hoodie on? We know he's oblivious, which the written portion seems to confirm, but come on Saitama! I hope there's a joke later on where we find out he messed up the test by accident or something like that.

I can see why Saitama was rubbing Snake the wrong way with his gum chewing, lazy sitting, oppai wearing image.

Saitama's gotta Saitama.

My biggest laugh of the episode came from finding out that the founder of the Hero Association was the grandfather of the butt-chin boy Saitama saved in his origin story. That just fit his character of non-recognition to perfection. And three years later, he's bald, so how could they even recognize him? It's just so good!

The action sequence of the week was Genos' first official training match with Master Saitama.

We learned that he changes his body parts depending on the situation and that he wore the new ultimate gear his scientist benefactor made for him. He had hoped that he would stand on equal footing, or more, with Saitama, but not even close.

Saitama gave him just a flicker of when he gets serious and Genos felt that killing intent that scared the Hercules Beetle guy from the House of Evolution.

Saitama hasn't mentioned his punching prowess yet, but we've seen hints of his technique. He had a combination called, boringly enough, "Series of Normal Punches" that he used against the lion villain in the second episode. That means he has "other" kinds of punches. From those wispy clues I can totally see him mastering where he chooses the point of impact for his punches and how he didn't blow a hole through Genos' skull, but just behind it.

Genos still doesn't believe Saitama knows the secret behind his strength, but I'm coming around to the idea that Saitama's obliviousness meant he didn't understand the question. He told him and the villains from the House of Evolution how he got strong, but he didn't tell them how he learned to fight.

Saitama's character has been thoroughly established, so now it's time to smash the rest of the world up against him and see what happens. He already affected the world once by saving some bratty butt-chin boy. What will happen to the organization he inadvertently inspired now that he's joined its ranks as an "average" hero? I'm already impatient for the next installment!
